Our Family History
1977-2006
Ann Marie’s Seafood and Italian Restaurant opened 29 years ago
as a small 40-seat family spaghetti house in downtown Rehoboth Beach,
on the corner of Wilmington Avenue and 2nd Street. The menu expanded
with seafood and so did our business. We moved to this location and our
customers love this beautiful five-dining room restaurant. Our business
still continues to grow and improve. It has become a seashore favorite
for many over the years.
At the downtown location, my mother, Mama Ellen
insisted on cooking everything from scratch the same way she had for
our family over the years. Passers
by were greeted every morning by the aroma of sauteing garlic and onions
as Mama Ellen prepared her famous Italian dishes. Locals and visitors
alike followed their noses inside and sampled her homemade lasagna, sauces,
and wedding soup. She always told me that she put a lot of love into
her food and people could taste the difference.
Mama Ellen passed away
in March of 1990 at the age of 83, and that summer, customers still came
in looking for her welcoming smile and cheery hello.
Many people came to know her and love her home style cooking. Mama Ellen
had passed her knowledge down to her son-in-law, Steve Taylor, and he
took over the daily task of making her homemade favorites. Mama Ellen’s
love and tradition still live on, and we still make the lasagna, meatballs,
and sauces the old fashioned way, as only she would have done it.
In
2000, Ann Marie’s Seafood and Italian Restaurant brought it’s
menu to this location on Highway 1. We can now accommodate all parties
from 2 to 200. We specialize in rehearsal dinners, weddings,
and any other large dining function. We also cater to any large party off premise.
Keep us in mind for your next special occasion.
In the summer of 2004,
Ann Marie’s Restaurant welcomed the talents
and expertise of Executive Chef Ryan Cunningham, while promoting our
very own Lazaro Siquina-Gonon to the position of Sous Chef. Mama Ellen’s
favorites are still done the same way today, and Chef Ryan adds even
more wonderful tastes to the dining room with a modernized menu and all
of Ann Marie’s Exclusive Dinner Specials.
I am sure you will find
the same friendliness and quality that so many have experienced here
over the years. It is my great pleasure to serve
you in the same tradition of years gone by.
Thank you for dining with
us this evening! Enjoy!
